Three owners, one moving start date.
Three owners told me the same thing this month. They want to start EOS® — in Q4. Not now. Q4. Maybe January. The team is too busy right now. There's a key hire to make first. A broken system to fix. A messy quarter to close out before anyone can take on something new. Every reason is real. Every reason is also the same reason wearing a different jacket. I've stopped arguing with the reasons. The reasons are never the problem. There will always be a hire to make and a quarter to close. That is what running a company is. If a clear runway is the requirement, you will be waiting forever. You're not waiting until you're ready. You're waiting to feel ready. Those are different things. The first one is a decision you can make today. The second one never shows up on a calendar.
Starting is how you get ready.
Here's the pattern I see in room after room. Readiness gets treated like a finish line. Get the right people in place, fix the cash, quiet the noise — then install the system to keep it that way. It runs backwards. The chaos you're waiting to clear is the exact thing EOS® clears. The hire you can't make is a People issue you'd drop on an Issues List® in week one. The quarter that's on fire is what a Scorecard® catches before it sparks. You don't get traction and then start. Starting is how you get traction. Waiting for calm before you start EOS® is like getting in shape before you'll allow yourself to go to the gym. The waiting is the thing keeping you out of shape.
The Leadership Question
What are you actually protecting by waiting? Not what has to happen before you start — that list is infinite, and you already know it. Sit with the honest answer. It's usually not the business. It's usually you.
